Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

Divorce in Connecticut

Can a divorce case be bifurcated in Connecticut? The husband filed for divorce 6 months ago and wants to re-marry. The wife was recently in an accident and is mentally incapacitated (not sure if temporary or permanent). Can the divorce be finalized and alimony, custody, etc be held off until more info is available on her mental status?

Re: Divorce in Connecticut

You can request that the court bifurcate, however, it is at the court's discretion. Based upon the facts you have provided, I am not so sure a judge would grant your request. The court may have to appoint a guardian ad litem for the wife since she can not make her own decisions.
