divorce and loans

my husband and I are getting divorced. one of our vehicles has a loan on it and is only in his name. that vehicle is being awarded to me in the divorce. it is in the divorce papers that I will have sole possession and responsibility for all payments for it...how does all of that come in to play with the loan company and the legal system ?

Re: divorce and loans

The car stays in his name and you make the payments and have possession. I don't know why he would agree to this, but evidently he did or is.

The title will never be in your name, however, because when you pay it off, it goes to him. This is a problem.

I also, don't know how you can register a car that is in his name, in your name. I also don't know what happens with the insurance.

You need to make some phone calls. If your divorce has not been finalized, you may have to make some changes.
