I am getting divorced. My wife has a pension plan at work. She is a teacher in Ct. I only have my social security. Do I get some of her pension and will she get any s.s.

You would most likely be entitled to one-half of the "marital portion" of the pension. This usually means that part of the pension accumulated during the marriage. Other factors could contribute to what that really means in terms of dollars and generally a formula is used to determine what the marital portion actually is along with age, length of service, vesting issues, etc. Don't forget that present value of the pension may also be relevant depending on what other assets are available to distribute between the parties.

You may want to seek out the website for social security benefits to see what she may be entitled to. It is my understanding that she does not get a portion of your benefits.
