Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

due to a domestic dispute between my son and his step father my sons father is currently trying to get custody, we went to court once and had an agreement, i witnessed a domestic dispute at his house with my son and his fathers girlfriend and son, so i took my son, i am now in contempt. his father has been collecting welfare for our two kids for the last five months fraudulantly, we have another court date for me being in contempt( i took my son and he now lives with me again, dcf told me to keep him here) my question is can i ask the court for a continuance in the matter so i can get an attorney for me and my son, this case has gotten too difficult for me to handle myself...

Yes, and most judges will give you a couple of weeks and maybe more to get an attorney.
