Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

educational support beyond majority

CT recenly passed PA02-128 that states educational support can be paid if the initial support agreement asked for that after 11/02. My initial support was back in 1996 however I am modifying that do to extreme changes not related to education. The state of NY has 21 has the majority -would it be easier to change jurisdiction since that is where we have been living for over a year?

Re: educational support beyond majority

Won't matter. Even if you register the judgment in NY and try to modify it there, the NY court will use Conn law as the basis, and the educational act applies ONLY to cases where judgment entered AFTER 10/1/02. If your judgment permits, you may be able to get it modified because of a substantial change in circumstances, but I'd have to see the judgment to tell.
