Engagement ring

I have two employees who were engaged. They are not engaged anymore. The male employee purchased the ring and decided that this was not going to work out. He called off the wedding and wants the ring back,it was about thirteen thousand dollars. Who gets the ring!!!!!! They are making me crazy they want to sue each other. Please help me save them the time and money. What is the legal yhing to do. Thank you . Vincent palumbo

Ah! The joys of being an employer! Connecticut follows the rule that an engagement ring is given on the condition that the marriage takes place. If the woman breaks it off (for no good reason other than she wants out) then she has to give it back. If the fellow breaks it off, then she gets to keep it. The difficulty often comes when one party claims to have a good reason for breaking it off (I found out he's a drinker; she's cheating on me, etc.) Then it's whoever the court believes. Isn't that a wonderful answer?
