Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

is she entitled to home? Not married, not on title

Lived with mother of son, for 10 years, my name is on title to home, she never contributed financially, I own home, she is sueing me in civil court saying she is entitled to some of the equity, we never had joint banks accounts, always filed taxes separately. Connecticut does not recognize common law marriage. She wants to leave and wants money, we have joint shared custody(temp) we still live in same home. Someone please help me.

While Connecticut may not recognize common law marriage, she may be able to recover based on contract law. However, I would need further information in order to make a determination. If you need help, you can email me at [email protected].

Strange. I tried a case with an almost identical fact pattern last year. Mom claimed contract, quasi-contract, unjust enrichment, detrimental reliance - everything but the kitchen sink (actually, I think she claimed that, too). The judge ruled she gets $000.00. However, my client refused to offer her anything (in fairness to him, she wouldn't settle for anything less than 1/2 the equity), so we had a two day trial, which I won, but it cost my client $15,000 in attorney fees. (Which was better than giving her 1/2 the equity or $150,000.00). I'dneed to know more about your fact pattern, but I can tell you it's not so easy for her to collect in Connecticut. I can be contacted at [email protected].
