Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

Equitable Divorce Settlement??

I am a divorced dad living in CT w/ 2 kids living in NH. Im living paycheck to paycheck trying to keep up with my bills. I rent, she owns. Im single, shes remarried. My settlement: $248/wk child support; 40% work related daycare; 40% out-of-pocket medical/dental expenses; 50% extra curricular activities; carry medical/dental insurance for kids. First half 2007 total expenses was $10,700, extrapolating to $21,400/yr. We meet halfway for pickup/dropoff: apprx. 6,760 mi/yr. for me (another $900/yr in gas alone). My annual income w/ bonuses is apprx. $70,000/yr. (same as it was 2 yrs. ago during settlement). Is this a normal settlement or should I go back to court to try and have something reduced? Help!!

Re: Equitable Divorce Settlement??

The settlement may not have been equitable, but changing it at this point will require showing a substantial change of circumstances, and showing that a change would be in the best interest of the child. If the circumstances are identical to what they were before it will be difficult to establish a change. If however you are having a difficult time making ends meet (eg. increase in expenses) then you might be able to obtain a reduction in support. I would be glad to speak with you if you need more detailed information.
