Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

eviction of 18 year old

i recently wrote in regard to kicking my 18 year old out of the house. the answer received was that there is no law preventing me from doing so. however, i heard that it was illegal to just ''throw her stuff to the curb'' and that i would have to start formal eviction proceddings to do so! is this true? she has also claimed that she would go to the police who would mandate she could stay if the proceedings were not inititated. please help i am at my wits end. could i be arrested for throwing my 18 year old out? i live in ct.

Re: eviction of 18 year old

Technically, you do have to start eviction proceedings to get your 18 year old out of the house because there is a "lock-out" law which could be enforced. I have not seen it enforced too often, per se, but depending on the police department, the town you live in, etc. it could be.

You should speak to a sargent at your local police department and get more information.
