Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

Filing divorce in a state other than where I live

I live in South Caolina and my husband that I am seperated from lives in Connecticut. I am moving to Georgia, which is going to extend my divorce another 6 months. Is there a way for me to file in the state of Connecticut , where he has resided for the last 7 months? And if so how would I go about filing?

If you have been in SC for over a year, you can file the divorce action here. However, SC may not have jurisdiction to address the other issues, such as asset/debt distribution, etc., which will most likely have to be done in CT. For that reason, you will most likely be better off filing up there, rather than down here.

If you need more information, you can visit my family law blog (www.SCFamilyLaw.com) or our website (www.StevensFirm.com). I wish you the best of luck.

It is possible for you to file in Connecticut. To start this process, you would have to file a dissolution of marriage complaint with the court.
