Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

My ex hired a lawyer to mediate the motion for child support midification that I requested. The lawyer wants my financial affidavit, but I am not comfortable using him. I am going pro-se, can I ask the court for a court mediator or do I have to use the one mu ex paid? I have my reasons to be skeptical.

If you weren't a party to agreement with lawyer, it sounds in reality like your ex has a lawyer and you don't. The court isn't going to give you a lawyer or mediator, just send you to Family Relations. If you want a lawyer protecting your interests, you are probably going to have to hire one.

When you go to court on your court date for the modification, family relations will mediate and make recommendations as to what the support should be. You and your ex- spouse will be required to exchange financial affidavits prior to or during your meeting with family relations. You don't have to speak to her lawyer or any lawyer prior to court if you don't want to.
