Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

Home ownership

Is it better to have my husband's name only on the house or land that we bought together? Or should both of our names be on there? My husband makes around $70,000 a year and I am a stay at home mom. My husband told me that it's better to have his name alone on the land we just bought to build a house on. Is this true? I need an honest and extensive advice. Thank you.

Re: Home ownership

I can think of no good reasons (and several bad ones) to have only his name on the deed to the property. In a divorce (and I'm not suggesting anyone is thinking divorce), it doesn't matter whose name is on the title. But if only his name is on:

1. he can sell or refinance the property without your knowledge or consent, or

2. he could get sued by someone, or one of his creditors could attach the property and your interest wouldn't be protected.
