Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

Marriage - old debt

I am 58 yrs old, now partnered with a man (56) who has a lot of old history and old debt and bad credit due to two past bad marriages. If He and I were to marry (I have good credit) would I be responsible for his debt and would my credit rating change if married to him??

Re: Marriage - old debt

No to both questions. You will not be responsible for his old debt and your credit rating is not effected by marrying him.

Even if he acquired new debt during the marriage,(i.e. credit cards, car loans, etc.), so long is you are not a co-signer or joint debtor, then you still are not responsible except if the new debt is medical.
