Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut
Marriage Separation Financial Information
Husband, wife, and 2 year old baby. Ten year relationship. 2 Professionals. He is gainfully self employed, she currently at home with baby. Own home. He comes home one evening and tells her he needs his own space. Things are too overwhelming with his professional demands and now his domestic demands. Decides he wants to move to own apartment. She asks for marriage conselling. He agrees, but insists he won't change his mind to move out. He wants more control of his own life? She is devastated! Although, she has the ability to be gainfully employed, their plan was that if she worked over the past six years to put him through law school, they would have a baby and then she would complete her PhD. This has now changed! He is telling her that she will be alright, and does not need legal advice. I'm afraid she may need some kind of advice. If he removes himself from the home, is she entitled to child support, alimony, and assistance with other financial obligations? (mortgate, etc) This is a very emotional time for her, especially that it's so sudden and unexpected. Are there any steps she should be taking at this time to ensure her and her baby's security?

Re: Marriage Separation Financial Information
You do not explain your relationship, but I assume you are a parent or a friend. The person who should be seeking legal advice is the woman involved, not you. Your best contribution would be to encourage her to consult with an experienced matrimonial attorney.
Hope this helps.
