The mother of my grandchildren is thinking of moving back to Massachusettes with the children, how can my son prevent this. if she takes them away they will be devastated

I don't have enough information to answer your question. Are there court orders in place giving your son joint custody? If so, then he needs to file a motion to stop her from moving. If there are no court orders in place, he needs to file a custody action.
