Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

Prenump or not?

Hello,

I'm 38 yrs old and own my house (no mortgage).

I am ready to ask my significant other to marry me, BUT am afraid that MY house may become a marital asset in the event of a divorce.

I would really like to hear that the house and 401K savings that I already have will not be affected in a divorce case since she will be walking into this situation w/o spending a dime.

If it makes a difference, we both work full time and have decent paying jobs.

Thanks for any info.

Re: Prenump or not?

Generally speaking, you each get to keep what you bring to the marriage, but a pre nup is still a good idea. Even pre nups aren't foolproof, however. Call me and I'll explain. John Heffernan 860-233-6336
