Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

provisions on sale of the house

My divorce will most likely be final next month.I had to move out of the house because i could not afford the mortgage.I didnt work more than a few hours a week throughout my marriage, and depended on my husband to pay the bills since it was our aggreement that I stayed home to raise our daughter.I have no lawyer for the divorce,he does. His lawyer wants me to sign over the house to my husband, becuase at this time its worth 9000 less than we owe on it.I refuse to sign it over because since i was a housewife,I have no career at this time and only just started working and supporting myself. This makes HIm the only one who could logically support the house, and the one who can sit on until its profitable to sell it.His lawyer knows im asking for alimony because i am entitled to it being married 8 years to him.Heres my question. Can i ask the court to make a provision in the divorce(that because i was a housewife during the marriage and had no way of supporting the house after the divorce, because i gave up a career to raise my daughter and be his wife)to pay me a portion of the profit from the sale or refinance of the house, after the divorce, once the house has enough equity? His lawyer is saying its not possible but i dont believe it.

You can certainly agree to a portion of the sale of the home. However, if your husband does not agree, then the court would have to decide whether you are entitled to any of the monies. If you need help, you can email me at [email protected].
