Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut
I have a question on behalf of a friend. My friend was engaged to a woman. He paid for their wedding venue. After he had already paid for the venue he found out she was actively cheating on him and they called off the wedding. During Covid wedding venues were not refunding venue cancellations but rather were willing to reschedule the wedding dates for free. My friend assumed he had just lost his money altogether. However, his ex who had cheated on him decided to keep the event slot and instead marry the guy she had been cheating on him with (with HIS money). (Tacky or what?) Therefore she let her ex (my friend) pay for her wedding - with the man she cheated on him with. My friend is traumatized by the whole thing but would like to know what his options are. He doesn't know whether he even wants to bother.

Wow.
He may have a civil action for unjust enrichment. I can not say if he will be successful and he may have other causes of action in addition to unjust enrichment. He should see an attorney for a consultation and be prepared to pay a retainer if he retains the attorney. I assume the cheater signed the wedding venue contract with your friend.
