Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut
Hi,
I've a quick question - my marriage broke down in less than 3 months (Jan 26th, 2010 - April 15th, 2010)- I've filed for divorce and my case management date is Nov 15th. Now, my spouse wants Alimony and 200-400 dollars for the 10 days my items stayed in the house after I moved out, which is ridiculous as she is trying to take advantage.
Then, is it safe to assume there will be no agreement in the case management?
Would the Court really let this case be postponed because of the above 2 ridiculous items?
If there is no agreement, approximately when would be the final hearing after the case management?
What should I do to be done with this quickly?
Thank you for your time!

I don't believe that any judge is going to award alimony for a 3 month marriage. I also do not believe that a judge is going to charge you for "storage" of your items in the "marital residence." However, I do not have all the facts, so my opinion is assuming there are not extenuating circumstances.
The case management date is the date you tell the court what is going on. If you do not have an agreement then you proceed with the case to prepare for trial. The one page document you file tells the court your schedule to do that. It appears you both do not have lawyers so you should go to court on the case management date and address the judge. If there are no assets and nothing to fight over (except her demands regarding alimony and storage charges) the court may just set it down for a trial. Ask for a quick date since it's not a complicated case. (the marriage was too short for the divorce to be that complicated) I don't see why this can't be scheduled in the next few weeks for a trial date. Then go in and ask for the divorce.
