Re: reducing child support

In order to modify your support, then you would have to file a motion for modification. You would have to prove a substantial change of circumstances. As a general note however, you are only liable for child support for children under the age of 18. Since the order was entered in 1989, you may not owe child support. Re: reducing child support

Her re-marriage doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is "Has there been a substantial change in circumstances (financially) for either of you since the last time an order was entered"? "Substantial" usually means 15% up or down. They would recalculate the child support based on today's numbers. Be careful, though. If your income has gone up a lot in the interval, you could get an increase, not a decrease. It's been 18 years? Why are you still paying child support at all?
