Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

I was sexually molested when I was a child and went to court when I was 12. My family won around $20,000 from the civil case and I want to use it to pay for college but my parents are claiming that the money is not in my name so I cannot have access to it. I know that I was a minor at the time but now I am 18 years old and would like to use it to pay for school. Do I have any right to this money?

If you got the award in Connecticut, the probate court would have had to approve it and would have kept jurisdiction over the money. You would be entitled to it at age 18. Check with the probate court.
