Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut
I have sole custody of our 5 year old son; my ex-husband only has a basic visitation schedule that does not include vacation. He has been asking me to let him take our son for an oversees visit to his family. I was wondering: can we strike some sort of a legal agreement for this trip that would outline all my conditions? How would we legalize it - is notarizing it enough? Can I prepare it myself or do we need an attorney?

If you wanted it to be a court order, then you would need to file a motion to modify the decree and add the provisions of the vacation visitation. You could write up an agreement in court, both sign it and ask the court to adopt it as a court order.
Anything other than a court order is just an agreement and, although it could be enforced, it would probably not be useful in that it does not have the strength that a court order does.
