Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

My son is 18 and just graduated High School; He's attending college in the fall... Am I responsible for any college cost? His mom and I got divorced in 1997. However the divorce decree does not state anything for me to contribute to his college education however shes bringing me back to court looking for me to contribute? I'm I obligated to contribute? At the same time Im still paying child support and he turned 18 in may but I have a court date to modify.

First of all, your support ends when he graduates from High School. You should request an order terminating it, but you can stop paying it, nevertheless.

The statute which gives the court the authority to order post-secondary educational support orders applies to any case in which the initial support order is entered on or after October 1, 2002. This does not apply to your decree because your decree was entered in 1997.

Assuming you are correct that the decree is silent as to whether you contribute to college, then I don't think you are obligated and she is wasting everyone's time.
