Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

My sons name isn't n his daughters birthcertificate

My son and his daughters mother are not together anymore, she doesn't want to put his name on the birtcertificate but he needs her consent to be put on, The baby's mother has said she is just going to drop the baby off to us and let my son raise the baby. With out his name on The BC, can he get in trouble with the law for that if she decided to be funny and call the police later? Can that happen

Re: My sons name isn't n his daughters birthcertificate

Your son needs to file a custody application with the family court in his district and file an acknowledgement of paternity. If the mother does not object then he can get custody. If the mother does object then he should do a paternity test to establish that he is the biological father. Once he does that he has the right to joing custody or sole custody if she doe not want the baby.

Once there is an order of paternity in place he can submit a form to vital statistics to add his name to his daughter's birth certificate. You can get this form from the family relations office in the family court.
