In the state of Connecticut if you have joint custody do you have to pay child support

That depends on what kind of joint custody you are referring to. If it's joint legal custody, but primary residential custody with one parent, then most likely the nonprimary residential parent would pay child support.

If it's joint legal custody shared residential custody, then one parent may pay child support to the other parent if that parent earns substantially more money.
