Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

Title to new home

This may seem crazy, but my wife and I are in the process of buying a new home, although divorse is likely in the near future. My wife is a stay at home Mom. Is there any advantage to putting the new home in my name only? My thought is that she will get the same split eventually regardless of the name on the title, but I was told by a friend that it gives me more flexibility in the future (like in the selling process). My intent is to let her and the children live in the home until the kids are of legal age.

Thanks

Re: Title to new home

Unless you are very well to do, and can afford to lose 100% of the value in the property, plus pay child support, alimony and the mortgage and other costs of the property, I would never advise anyone to purchase a home while a divorse is pending or the marriage is in danger. Tom Noonan
