Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

Unmarried parents, possible abduction

My 19 year-old son and his 18 year-old girlfriend are living together with thier baby who is now four months old. The girl-friend has suddenly taken up with a new young man, and has broken up with my son. She is about to visit relatives in Maine, is behaving secretively, and I'm afraid that she's planning on taking the baby and not coming back. What are my son's rights in this matter? Is this considered an abduction?

Re: Unmarried parents, possible abduction

It's not an abduction nor a kidnapping if there is no court order currently in effect. Technically, CT courts retain jurisdiction over the child for 6 months after the baby leaves the state, but my advice is to IMMEDIATELY file a custody application in the Superior Court, and seek a temporary order of custody in your son.
