Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Connecticut
My 16 year old daughter was caught shoplifting at Urban Outfitters in CT. No criminal charges filed. Today received a settlement offer from Palmer, Reifler & Associates in FL. A large firm who represents Urban Outfitters. I understand Urban Outfitters is entitled to the settlement amount of $300 and I as her parent face civil lawsuit, additional fees, expenses if not paid. However, my question, which may sound a bit lame is this, If my daughters name was misspelled on the settlement offer, do I have a legal way out? All other information, including our address and date of incident are correct in the letter.

First of all, if you believe this is the best way to resolve this matter why would you "want out." You didn't sign anything so you didn't agree yet, correct?
You need to decide if you are going to settle or take the chance they file criminal charges against your daughter and/or sue you.
This isn't about a "way out" because there isn't one. Call them and correct the spelling of your daughter's name is my suggestion. You should be glad they are willing to settle this outside of criminal court.
Did your daughter make restitution for what was orginally taken and if so, how was the $300 figure determined?
