Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Connecticut
Was dating a man who decided to buy a new truck. My car was paid for, but he knew I wanted a Rav4. I said I couldn't afford it, and he urged me to trade in my 2001 car and, because he was living with me, said that he would trade off five months rent to put down the downpayment. I said that I really couldn't afford a new car even though it was one I had always wanted. He said, this is my gift to you. This was repeated many times......that he bought the car for me.......he did move out because we felt it wasn't right in the eyes of the church. We continued to date, broke up, got back together, broke up, became engaged, broke up........etc. During this time he paid the car payments because he said he had given me the car as a gift (knowing that I always wanted this one) My family was reassured this many times. This relationship was volatile and through two years, I witnessed someone with an extreme anger problem and having been in an abusive relationship before and lived in a battered women's shelter, I tried to believe that he would change.
My dilemma is: he has paid for the car (in my name) since 2009. Do I now forfeit the car to him?
