Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Connecticut

Paper boy vs dog

Our mixed breed part pitbull dog bite our paper boy, the wound was superficial and no skin or clothing was torn. Since the incident our dog was put into the pound for a 14 day quarantine, we understand this and have no problems. We were going to contact the victim when a local news channel picked up the story, then it was published in the newspaper, and than the lady sent a thankyou note to all of our neighbors for thier support during this time of need. She has filed a lawsuit against us at this time, do we have any recourse towards her public outbursts? At one point she went to the police to get a restraining order against my husband, a man she met once over 6 months ago.

Re: Paper boy vs dog

As far as the bite claim goes, your homeowner's policy will cover you for that. Unfortunately, unless the paperboy was tormenting or teasing the dog, it is a strict liability action which means you are on the hook.

As far as the adverse publicity goes, the "victims" have first amendment rights and do have the right to speak out as they are doing. Personally, I think what is happening to you stinks but the people do appear to be within their rights.

I think your best course of action is to avoid any contact with these folks and eventually the whole bruhaha will blow over.
