Legal Question in Immigration Law in Connecticut

Wanting to marry an Algerian living in Paris

Long story: I was in Paris for three months last year, fell in love with an Algerian who was there on an expired tourist visa (in other words, illegally). At the time he couldn't leave France to go anywhere but Algeria, and he didn't want to do that. Last spring a lawyer got him in touch with a French woman and he married her so he could stay in the country (money was exchanged). So now he's legally in France. Can he travel to the U.S. to visit me? Can he move here and, once here, divorce her and marry me? Or do I have to wait another year and a half (when he'll be a French citizen and can get a divorce) before we can do anything? I hope this summary suffices ....

If he can get the visa to the US, then he can enter US.

Whether he can leave France depends on French law. You should seek consultation from a qualified French attorney.

If he is divorced, then you can marry him and petition for his permanent residency in the US.
