Legal Question in Insurance Law in Connecticut
Auto insurance coverage of accident lawsuits
A year & 1/2 ago, my boyfriend slid into a main road, coming out of a private parking lot, during a snowstorm. A woman driving a Ford Bronco hit him on the front driver side of his 1986 Chevy Cavalier, hitting his tire and making his car undrivable. The policeman at the scene took her statement and she drove off without pressing charges. He took no statement from my boyfriend--he only asked how it happened. My boyfriend told him that he slid into the road. The policeman asked nothing else, but gave my boyfriend a ticket for bald tires, negligence, and failure to give the right of way. My boyfriend went to court for that ticket and paid it last year. He couldn't afford to fix his car, and his insurance fixed her cracked grille. Her husband is now suing my boyfriend for $15,000 & up for physical damages to his wife, should my boyfriend try to get his insurance company involved or would we be better off with a private lawyer? He is 21 years old and we don't have that kind of money.

Tell the insurance company immediately. If they
give you any hint of a problem then a private lawyer should
be contacted to make then do their job.
