Legal Question in Insurance Law in Connecticut
driving as a minor
I am 16 years old and just bought a car. I am the only owner and driver of the car and i am the only one on the registration. i went and got my own insurance seperate from my parents. my coverage is 20, 40. If i cause an accident and hurt someone, can this effect my parents at all if i am not on their insurance policy and they had nothing to do with me getting the car other than signing a parent consent form saying i can register the car in my own name? please help me. thank you.

Re: driving as a minor
Some states hold parents responsible for minor
children who injure third parties. How can you
own the vehicle if you are only 16?
If your state holds parents liable, and if they
are not insured, yes, they can be responsible.
You and they should sit down with your or their
insurance agent and discuss the best way to
accomplish this, because it is possible to have
you drive and have them be protected.
