is it illegal for me to sell my drawings if i copied them from a picture that someone took with a camera and posted them online

Unless you had the permission of the author of the photograph, just making the copies (the drawings) would infringe the reproduction right (17 U.S.C. § 106(1)). Selling the copies would infringe the distribution right (§ 106(3)). Of course, both of those rights are "subject to sections 107-122"). (I'm assuming that the photograph has sufficient originality to be copyrighted, for otherwise it might not have been worth copying.) Your best course of action is to ask the photographer's permission. If you get permission to make drawings copying it, you don't need permission to sell them (§ 109).
