Legal Question in Employment Law in Connecticut

Defended against attacker, then fired

After 5 good years with my company, they fired me. A co-worker, who had a ''history'' with a bad attitude and undocumented (others too scared to report) harrassment behavior, decided to attack me. It was all caught on the security camera and there are witnesses who gave written statements. This person started pushing, grabbing, and finally trying to swing at me while another employee tried to get in front of him. I did not even touch him, I walked away immediately, I was not hurt, and reported to management. The company suspended both of us, and eventually fired me. I don't believe they viewed the video or read witness' statements. What kind of action do I have against my former employer. The attacker also spit on me, which was humiliating enough, but then to be fired for reporting this? There must be a law my employer broke?!?
