In economic downturns, companies can lay-off people, but this has to be done in an even handed way. If you have been offered a severance agreement or by out, it would be in your best interest to seek a legal review of the agreement and the complete circumstances behind the buyout and your specific offer so that you can have a full understanding of your legal rights.
