Legal Question in Employment Law in Connecticut

Harrassment Laws In Connecticut

I was harrassed in the workplace by a minority. He made physical threats to me. I went to the head of the company & filed a complaint. A meeting was held & it was told to the person to stop the harrassment. It continued. So much as I could not handle working there anymore & told the company I planned on leaving because of this. I did give a notice & they made that day my final day. I have also been denied unemployment because of this. What types of laws are there for harrassment?

Harassment is a class C misdemeanor in Ct. according to CGS 53a-183, but only if done by telephone. Another potential criminal violation is CGS 53a-182 Disorderly Conduct where the actor annoys or interferes with another person by offensive or disorderly conduct. I would however advise that you file a complaint with the Labor Dep't, in Wethersfield as a viable course of intial action.
