Legal Question in Employment Law in Connecticut
Hello,I have a question about unemployment benefits denial.
I worked for a company for almost 2 years, making 50K. 5 months ago, on Nov,1,2009 my salary got cut 30% and went down to 35K. It was very painful, but I had no other choice but continued working and looking for another job. Luckily I found one in Jan, 2010 for 45K. I stayed with them for 4 weeks and got laid off because project was cancelled. I filed for unemployment, had hearing over the phone and today received a letter about denial...saying I had no good cause to leave first employer...?!?
May be I missing something, but my salary was cut significantly, effecting my life..I had to look for more money making, being a single mother...and I haven't got a "better" job it was still less than original 50K, that I was making for last 4-5 years...
Can anybody explain why I got denied and why I had a "bad cause" leaving first employer?
Thank you

It appears that there is an error made by the hearing officer. Leaving your first job voluntarily for a better paying job is not a disqualifying factor just because you were laid off on the subsequent job. You should immediately file an appeal.
