While there is no age requirement, to be considered a private/independent contract in Connecticut an individual must meet all three of the following tests: (1) A worker must be free from direction and control in the performance of the service; (2) The workers services must be performed either outside the usual course of the employers business, or outside all of the employers places of business; and (3) The worker must be customarily engaged in an independently established trade, occupation, profession or business of the same nature as the service being provided. Any individual employed or permitted to work by an employer does not include any individual employed in camps or resorts which are open no more than six months of the year or in domestic service in or about a private home.
