Legal Question in Employment Law in Connecticut

Termination -- Uncollected Wages from Raise

Over 6 months ago I was promised a raise of $1.00/hour to begin in May 2003. Every week I received my paycheck and every week there was no raise. It was one excuse after another excuse, but I was told I was definitely getting the raise and it would be retroactive. Then I was told the raise would only be retroactive from June 2003. I never received the promised increase, and at the end of September 2003, my position was eliminated and I was terminated. At that time I was promised severance pay (amount not specified), but would not be receiving my $1.00/hour raise, even though it was to have been retroactive. (The raise would have amounted to about $950.00). It is now over two weeks, and I still have not received any severance pay, and when I call my former employer, he never returns my calls.

Do I have any recourse. Although I live in New York, I was employed in Connecticut.

Thank you.

Re: Termination -- Uncollected Wages from Raise

It depends on whether the promise to give you a raise and the promise to provide severance were in writing.
