Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Connecticut
I was recently locked out of my apartment over the weekend due to a broken key inside of the lock. The thing is there are 2 entrances into my apartment but I was never provided the second set of keys for the 2nd door. When I asked if I could get the 2nd set of keys I was told they didn't have any copies. As far as I know, the landlord MUST provide keys to any entrance that is allowed to be entered by the resident. They have no on-call super past 8pm or on the weekends/holidays. Can I get money taken off my rent for the time I wasn't able to reside in my apartment and have them change the locks on the door in which they "don't have copies of", so that I may have an actual second set in case a situation like this arises again?

You should go down to the housing court in your district and explain the situation. They will give you the forms to fill out and file. You will be given a hearing and you can go before the housing court to ask for relief. You may want to send the landlord a letter indicating what you want and giving him/her so much time to provide it. Then state that if he/she does not you will have no choice but to seek relief from the court.
