Legal Question in Military Law in Connecticut
Cadet posing as Marine Captain?
Im a Campus Safety officer at a private college in New England.Recently,I encountered a male student of ours whose behavior seemed intended to agitate myself and several other officers who were on post.WhenI asked him if he was one of our students,he stated that he was not(I learned later that he was in fact a student here).I asked him for some form of photo ID,to which he responded that he did not have any on him, adding that he was a ''Marine Captain'',as if to impress upon me the import of his presence.Respectfully unimpressed,I demanded he prove such with a military ID.He stated he did not have it with him,''because it is in Afganistan''.So it went until I finally told him to remove himself or risk arrest by the local authorities as a trespasser and for disord conduct.Further investigation determined this student is possibly involved with the Marines, but has yet to graduate from this school, which seems to suggest that he may only be a Cadet awaiting entry to OCS.Question:My CO and I are seekng backgrnd knowldge of how the military, specif the Marines, might view this budding Marine's behavior,so we might approach issue from an informed position and, together with his coaches, correct his behavior for his own good. YOUR THOUGHTS???
