Legal Question in Personal Injury in Connecticut

Lies and malicious gossip; written in a letter.

What recourse, if any, do I have in stopping, what has been a consistent attack on my character and reputation? Up until recently it has ranged from gossip that's been repeated by an uninvolved party and blatant verbal accusations in my presense to accusations that I threatened a person whom I don't even know and have never spoken to. The accusation that I threatened whomever actually brought the police to my door this past summer who insisted that I must have done it since my answers to their questions were inconsistent. Truth be known, I didn't even talk to whomever -THE POLICE WOULDN''T GIVE THE NAME OF THE ACCUSING PARTY. The accusatation absolutely left me speechless. End result was a warning not to say something that might be misconstrued ''even on my own property''.

3 weeks ago, in what I believe was an attempt to discredit me and drive a wedge between myself and an ally that can actually help me in another matter, a signed letter with many lies and half truths were sent to my ally. All of the attacks have sprung from a group of individuals affiliated with a business with which I'm having a legal dispute.

I don't have a record, never did drugs, don't even drink. Seems to me that they're out to ruin me. Help!
