Legal Question in Personal Injury in Connecticut
Minor turns adult.
My son had just turn 17 years old when he was a passenger in a vehicle involved in an accident. He was injured and transported to the hospital with a neck and back injury. He spent two days in the hospital. When he was released from the hospital he had to wear a neck brace for two weeks, and go to physical therapy for approx. three weeks. During that time I handled all his appointment and insurance claims because he was 17. I had been dealing with the insurance company until he turn 18 years old. At that time the insurance company stop with not talk with me because he had turn 18. He still has problems from his injuries due to the accident and I'm concern the insurance company will take advantage of him because he is so young. The driver of the vehicle he was in was at fault. Do I have any rights as his dad to speak with the insurance company, my son is now 19 years old and his claim ends in August 2009 after a two year period.

Once he turns 18 he is an adult in the eyes of the law. Any decision regarding settlement would be his. Given how close you are to the statute of limitations, you probably should hire an attorney. If the case hasnt settled by now it really should be in suit.
