Legal Question in Personal Injury in Connecticut

Punched by partiers

I was visiting a friend at an apartment complex about a month ago when a fight broke out at a party being held next door. On their way to the parking lot, a group of young men passed the deck I was sitting on with two of my friends. Without a word spoken to them they became very aggressive and eventually attacked us. I was punched in the mouth and eye. The blow to the eye area resulted in much swelling and bruising which is still evident. Both of my friends were also punched and bloodied. The police were called, but the attackers were gone. We had our injuries photographed by the police(I also took many pictures) and statements were given to them. We were checked by paramedics, but did not go to the hospital.

I have not gotten a return phone call from the police regarding this incident, but I have learned through the management of the complex that the guy who hit me was arrested. Do I have a case worth pusuing against him, the 20 yr old host of the party who was serving alcohol, the apartment management or any of the other attackers?

Re: Punched by partiers

You may have a case against the person who had the party depending on his control over the people who attended, whether liquor was served and to whom. You have a case against the person who hit you, especially because he was arrested. You should make an appointment with the state's attorney who is handling the case or a victim's advocate to make any part of his penalty to reimburse you for damages and medical bills. I don't know if it is worth pursuing a suit againt a 20 yr. old who lives in an appartment and may have no assets. That may be a expensive waist of time on your part, where the court may act as a collection agency for you for bills you may have incurred. I would make an appointment with the State's Attorney and discuss the matter with him. It seems to me, based on your question, that you may have little damages that the court could require the defendant to reimburse you . Other than that, you need to speak to an attorney to discuss the facts and get an opinion on the feasiabily of a suit againt the one who had the party or the defendant. Tom Noonan
