Legal Question in Personal Injury in Connecticut
Stair Broke
I live in a room in a house at school. I pay rent, but there is
NO lease. I was carrying a tv down from the third floor, as I
stepped down the top step cracked on the edge and broke and
I lost my footing as I fell down the stairs there were no railings
to grab on to and I fell to the bottom, my back and leg locked
up and went into cramping and siezing. I was picked up by
ambulance, and brought to the hospital where x rays were
nagitive, but I had muscle strains and contusions, and have
been refferred to get an MRI. My medical bills wont be covered
in full by my insurance, and now I have to start rehab for my
back and leg. Some one suggested I contact a lawyer about
compensation, especially that I no longer feel safe living there,
in the room I live in there are multiple fire hazzards, and i am
fairly certain that the room is not legally zoned or what ever it
may need to have someone living in it. So my question would
be, should I pursue a law suit? If so what kind and how do I
go about it?

Re: Stair Broke
If you are injured due to another's negligence, then you are entitled to recover damages. Damages may be recovered by an attorney simply negotiating a settlement with the tortfeasor. When negotiations fail, then you can engage a lawsuit. However, most cases settle. If you have any further questions, do not hestitate to email me at [email protected].
