Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Connecticut

Accident Waiver

I am having a class reunion at my home this weekend and I don't want to be responsible for someone if they get hurt on my property. Can I have the guest sign a waiver to relieve me of any responsiblities? If so is there a standard form, or what should it say? If not, what can I do? Thank you.

Re: Accident Waiver

No, There is not an accident waiver that the people can sign to releive you of any responsibilty. You have a duty to warn people of any known defects on our property as well as having your property up to the current building and fire codes. If beer, wine or other alcoholic drinks are sold or given away, you should have additional insurance to protect yourself for the event on your own property. You are on thin ice if you have a party and sell or give away booze to your guests and they get into an accident on the way home. I would recommend going to a local club hall and have the event catered or booking a restaurant to cater. In these times, if someone gets hurt, you are in for troulble. Maybe, you insurance company would be willing to do a one day rider on your policy, but I doubt it and , if so, it may be very expensive. Tom Noonan
