Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Connecticut

Adverse possession

What is adverse possession of property? Specifically, what are the steps in obtaining property in such a manner and does the law require that I be notified in some way if someone did this to my property? Finally, can such an action be reversed if this particular type of land grabber didn't comply with the law.

Re: Adverse possession

Generally, taking title to real property through adverse possession requires the adverse user's possession of property to be hostile and under a claim of right, actual, open and notorious, exclusive, continuous, and uninterrupted for a period of at least 15 years.

Getting the land back would require a quiet title action to be brought in court. The burden of proof rests with the person claiming right to the title.
