Dear sir or madam,

In 1997 i cosigned an automobile loan for my then girlfriend, soon after we parted ways, i made efforts to be taken off the loan and had no luck. soon after the car was repossed and my credit is damaged to this day. yesterday i went to register a car at the dmv, i was informed that i owed back taxes, i went to the tax office and found out it was for that car i cosigned for. i was informed that the bill was over 1000.00. it has been almost ten years of penalties and interest. i am in a tough spot i do not have the money to pay this off, nor was i aware that i owed this money till 10 years later. i look back and realize what a mistake i made and was hoping there was something i could do in this situation? thank you for your advice in this matter.''

There are a lot of variables. When was the car repossesed? Do you have proof of that date. If nothing else, if you can prove when the car went back to the finance company you should owe no taxes after that date. I am assuming you were on the title with your ex?
