Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Connecticut

Car Towed by Landlord: towing company asking for $600

2 yrs ago my car flunked the inspection. after that i bought a new car and let the registration/ insurance of the old car expire. 2 weeks ago my landlord got my car towed. i got the name of the towing company from my landlord and they asked me for $600 saying that it is the towing plus storage cost. I asked my landlord why had he got the car towed and he said that since it was sitting in the parking lot for two years and had expired registration tags they didnt know whom it belonged to. (However the car in question has an expired parking tag). THe landlord told me that they tried to find the car owner but couldnt. However if they had matched the tag to records it would have brought up my records. Now after much haggling the towing company is asking for $150 plus the title to the car. Once again the car in question has expired registration and insurance and still has my number plate on it. IS the towing company hosing me or am i legally liable to pay these charges. Also they are saying if I dont pay the cost they will send the paperwork to DMV. SHould I pay the $150 and get out of this or should i do something else.
